A coast-to coast glance at some of the industry’s newest additions

New York City | MYKONIAN HOUSE | mykonianhouse.com Gregory Politis’ Midtown Manhattan restaurant welcomed a sibling over the summer. Politis opened a second Mykonian House in an Upper East Side space triple the size of his original. The 2,700-square-foot restaurant comes with “an outdoor seating area, a dining room, a bar, and a separate room for private events,” a local news site reports. The menu at Mykonian House includes Greek classics like handmade phyllo spanakopita, lamb chops, avgolemono, and grilled octopus, along with fish sourced directly from Greece.

Harrison, New York | KYRIA | kyriawestchester.com Restaurateur Granit Shala, whose family owns nearby Italian eatery Tutta Bella, opened this “authentic Greek” fine-dining spot in August. The restaurant’s name, κυρία in Greek, means “lady,” as in “ladylike.” With vintage Greek travel posters on the wall, the dining room features ceiling beams, tall banquettes, and a 25-seat bar. Seafood figures prominently on the menu.

Millbrook, New York | HOUSE OF STEFAS | houseofstefas.com Brothers John and Paul Stefanopoulos aren’t calling their latest venture a restaurant. “It’s more of a sanctuary for what we call philoxenia,” John told a local news site. “Everyone here is loved and taken care of in the ancient Greek way.” The pair are scions of the family behind local institution Four Brothers Pizza. Much of its menu is inspired by family recipes, he said. “Our parents came from a small village in Greece. Our mom has always been cooking—that’s how she expresses herself.”

New York City | TAVERNA BY THE GYRO PROJECT | thegyroproject.com Estiator cover stars George Tenedios and Spiro Kokkosis have expanded their fast-casual brand with a 50-seat dining room and an ambitious menu by executive chef Pavlos Xenopoulos, formerly of Milos. Along with the signature pita wraps and gyros, Taverna will serve up lamb chops, lavraki, and biftekakia, with Greek beers and retsina in the mix for the drinks program. “Taverna is a natural next step for us,” Tenedios said in a statement.

Northvale, New Jersey | MYKOS | mykosnorthvale.com The owners of acclaimed Italian eatery Verana in nearby Norwood opened this upscale Greek dining spot in August. Homemade pita and sea- food dishes highlight the menu, along with a cock- tail list inspired by Greek myths—like the Achilles Heel, made with Metaxa brandy, the Artemis Bow, with Diktama Greek herb liqueur, or the Medusa’s Mirror, infused with olive juice.

San Diego | J-K’S GREEK CAFÉ | instagram.com/jksgreekcafe San Diego locals—and first-time restaurateurs— Liza Tsolirides and Brooke Saunders have revived an old-school Greek eatery that closed its doors in 2024 after 40 years. The pair decided to keep the name after meeting with the original owner’s son, who shared that the initials J-K stand for his father and uncle, Jacob and Kostas. Greek classics will stay on the menu, and the café’s original pink vinyl chairs will remain in place.
