The Odyssey has never been just one story. For nearly three millennia, Homer’s epic poem of homecoming, cunning, and survival has acted as a cultural mirror. How we read the trials of Odysseus says far less about ancient Greece than it does about the anxieties, values, and politics of our own times. [1]
On Tuesday, 17 November, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, five University of Chicago faculty members will gather at Swift Hall (located at 1025 E. 58th St., Chicago, IL 60637) for a panel discussion titled “The Odyssey across the Centuries”. Taking place in the Third Floor Lecture Room, the roundtable will explore the fascinating evolution of the Odyssey. The event, which concludes with an audience Q&A, will trace how a Bronze Age oral tale transformed from a civic textbook into a modern psychological study of trauma and reclamation.
