Merry Christmas
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, and our December issue is packed with holiday heart, from stories that shine with human interest to season’s greetings from scores of our business readers.
To start, our correspondent Maria Bernardis sought out some of the country’s most famous woman Greek chefs, finding inspiration in their ascendance to the top of their fields. These talents have carved out a place for themselves in what has traditionally been a man’s world—often by overcoming a workplace environment that could be overtly, or covertly, hostile. For this issue, Benardis also explores the diner scene in New York, speaking to longtime business owners who have fought gentrification trends and shifting eating habits to survive and thrive against the odds.
To help you take advantage of modern-day marketing in our changing world, resident restaurant consultant Constantine Kolitsas looks at social media influencers in “Going Social,” sharing valuable insights from visits by food bloggers to some of his restaurants. And in his Managing for Success column, Kolitsas describes some tried-and-true management techniques, exploring how owners find success through the application of “constant, gentle pressure.”
Looking for a great Greek meal, or a place to draw inspiration for your business? Ouzo Bay, the flagship eatery of the rapidly expanding Atlas Group, is taking Greek cuisine to a haute new level. In this month’s Restaurant Spotlight, we take our readers on a visit to Ouzo Bay, while Gina Kallitsi, Estiator’s Athens-based correspondent, writes about Balthazar, a hip dining spot in the Greek capital’s Ambelokipoi for our Greek-language section.
