NANCY AGRIS SAVAGE TO RECEIVE ALPHA OMEGA COUNCIL’S 2026 FOUNDERS’ AWARD AT ANNUAL HONORS GALA

BOSTON, MA (August 10, 2026) – The Alpha Omega Council is proud to announce that Nancy Agris Savage has accepted the organization’s prestigious 2026 Founders’ Award, in recognition of her lifelong commitment to advancing education, preserving Hellenic heritage, and strengthening the Greek American community through decades of dedicated service. The presentation of the 2026 Founders’ Award will take place during the Alpha Omega Council’s Annual Honors Gala on Friday, October 2, as part of its 50th Anniversary Weekend, October 2-4, 2026.

The award has special significance, as Agris Savage is the daughter of Alpha Omega Council’s founder Peter Agris, who, a half century ago, led a distinguished group of American Hellenes with a shared vision to create an organization committed to philanthropy, leadership, and support for future generations of Greek Americans – a mission that Agris Savage has continued to champion throughout her own lifetime.

For over 30 years, Agris Savage has overseen the Peter Agris Memorial Awards, providing almost one million dollars in grant assistance to deserving students pursuing graduate and undergraduate degrees in the fields of communications and journalism. Through her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering advocacy, the program has helped launch the careers of dozens of aspiring media and communications professionals, while preserving the values Peter Agris championed throughout his life and carrying forward the values that inspired the Council’s founding. 

Peter Agris was the founder and publisher of The Hellenic Chronicle, which served for five decades as the nation’s premier English-language weekly newspaper for Greek Americans. A respected philanthropist and community leader, he was an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a trustee of Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, Anatolia College, and The American College of Greece, and an active member of AHEPA. Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly to strengthen the ties between the United States and Greece while advancing education, journalism, and public service. 

Under Agris Savage’s stewardship, the scholarship program has continued to reflect those ideals by investing in the next generation of Greek American communicators, storytellers, and leaders. Agris Savage, who has built a strong legacy of her own, succeeded her late father at the helm of The Hellenic Chronicle, following more than a decade on the senior staff of The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. She is also the Team Leader of the ongoing Hellenic Chronicle Digitization Project, creating an independently searchable archive of a half-century of the newspaper’s coverage of the coming-of-age of the Greek diaspora in America. 

“Nancy embodies everything the Founders’ Award represents,” said Harry Vlachos, President of the Alpha Omega Council. “She has dedicated herself to preserving the vision established by her father and the Council’s earliest members, while making an extraordinary impact of her own through her commitment to education, service, and the next generation of Greek American leaders. It is an honor to recognize her with this year’s Founders’ Award.”

The presentation of the 2026 Founders’ Award and the 34th Annual Peter Agris Awards will take place during the Alpha Omega Council’s 50th Anniversary Honors Gala on Friday, October 2nd at the historic Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston, where New England’s Greek American community will gather to celebrate five decades of the Alpha Omega Council’s lasting impact. 

As the daughter of the Alpha Omega Council’s founder and a steward of its scholarship initiatives for decades, Agris Savage represents the continuity of a mission that has inspired generations. Her selection as this year’s Founders’ Award recipient reflects both her personal accomplishments and her family’s lasting impact on the Alpha Omega Council and the broader Greek American community.
