They Could Change America! / Ίσως αλλάξουν την Αμερική!

The massive student demonstrations that took place in the aftermath of the massacre at a high school in Parkland, Fla,. gave new hope to the possibility of legislation targeting the major problem of gun possession. March 24th will go down in history as the most dynamic national demonstration undertaken by students who are afraid of going to class because any mentally imbalanced person over the age of 18 is free to buy 3-4 assault rifles without any restriction and create a bloodbath in a classroom, public square, nightclub, or house of worship.
The demand put forth by demonstrators and the large majority of the American people calls for strict limitations and background checks on people purchasing guns, as well as increasing the age limit for gun ownership to 21.
Following March 24, 2018 and the justified proclamations of outrage made by young people, hopes began to form that the President and Congress would abandon their unforgivable indifference and adopt the necessary measures. Unfortunately, however, neither the President or members of Congress want to refuse the generous contributions of the National Rifle Association toward their reelection campaigns. The NRA is extremely powerful and possesses a huge amount of money to lobby parties and legislators. This unholy alliance continues with the participation of the gun industry, which supports the NRA and furiously opposes any restrictions on the sale of these instruments of death.
It is our hope that the indignant young people who descended onto Washington, D.C. and all the cities and towns in America will continue their activism. A similar movement forced the white majority to do away with segregation in 1964. The most important thing here is that this student uprising marks the involvement of young people in the nation’s political life and it appears that it could represent the start of the engagement of young whites, blacks, Asians, Latinos, and other people of color in civic affairs. Banded together in brotherhood, as they appeared in the streets and public squares, they can change a lot of things in America.
Η μεγαλειώδης κινητοποίηση της μαθητικής νεολαίας μετά το μακελειό σε γυμνάσιο της Parkland, FL, έδωσε νέες ελπίδες για την νομοθετική ρύθμιση του μεγάλου προβλήματος της οπλοφορίας. Η 24η Μαρτίου θα μείνει στην ιστορία σαν η πιο δυναμική, παναμερικανική διαμαρτυρία μαθητών που φοβούνται να μπουν στις τάξεις τους αφού οποιοσδήποτε παράφρων άνω των 18 ετών είναι ελεύθερος, χωρίς κανένα περιορισμό, να αγοράσει 3-4 ταχυβόλα και να αιματοκυλίσει μια μαθητική τάξη, μια δημόσια πλατεία, ένα νυχτερινό κέντρο ή ένα τόπο λατρείας.
Η απαίτηση των διαδηλωτών και της μεγάλης πλειοψηφίας των Αμερικανών ζητά αυστηρούς περιορισμούς, προηγούμενους ελέγχους των αγοραστών και δικαίωμα οπλοφορίας μετά το 21ο έτος.
Μετά την 24η Μαρτίου 2018 και τις δικαιολογημένες οργισμένες νεανικές διακηρύξεις, δημιουργήθηκε η ελπίδα ότι ο Πρόεδρος και το Κογκρέσσο θα εγκατέλειπαν την ασυγχώρητη αδιαφορία τους για να προχωρήσουν στη λήψη των απαραίτητων μέτρων. Αλλά, δυστυχώς, ούτε ο Πρόεδρος, ούτε τα μέλη του Κογκρέσσου θέλουν να αρνηθούν τις γενναίες χρηματικές εισφορές του National Rifle Association προς τους προεκλογικούς τους αγώνες. Ο Σύνδεσμος αυτός είναι πανίσχυρος και διαθέτει τεράστια ποσά για τον επηρεασμό των κομμάτων και των νομοθετών. Το σπουδαιότερο είναι ότι η μαθητική εξέγερση σηματοδοτεί την ανάμειξη των νέων στην πολιτική ζωή της χώρας και φαίνεται ότι μπορεί να αποτελεί την αρχή συμμετοχής των νέων, λευκών, μαύρων, κίτρινων και μελαχρινών στη δημόσια ζωή. Αδελφωμένοι, όπως εμφανίστηκαν στους δρόμους και στις πλατείες μπορούν να αλλάξουν πολλά στην Αμερική.
Πρόκειται για μια πολύ ελπιδοφόρα προοπτική, όπως έχουμε ήδη σημειώσει.
