
IT GIVES us great joy to announce the upcoming publication of the Greek-American Food Industry Guide. This is an initiative undertaken by Estiator, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the magazine's founding. It was no easy task. We began this project in the hope that the Guide would reflect the progress and achievements of an epic effort made by self-made Greek-Americans who placed their own personal stamp on the food industry through hard work and distinguished themselves during difficult times, proving themselves to be leading forces in the U.S. economy.
We initially planned on only including the restaurants serving Greek cuisine in every U.S. city as well as the businesses that are directly affiliated with them. Afterwards, as we continued working on this publication, we decided that it would be better for the readers of Estiator's guide if they could find not only Greek-style restaurants, but all restaurants under Greek ownership, including diners, luncheonettes, coffee shops, and fast food chains.
ΜΕ ΙΔΙΑΙΤΕΡΗ ικανοποίηση αναγγέλλουμε την έκδοση, προσεχώς, του Greek-American Food Industry Guide. Πρόκειται για μια πρωτοβουλία του Estiator που συμπίπτει με το 25ο έτος της έκδοσής του. Είναι ένα έργο πολύ δύσκολο. Το ξεκινάμε με την φιλοδοξία να γίνει ο οδηγός αυτός, ο καθρέπτης της προόδου και των επιτευγμάτων μιας πραγματικής εποποιίας αυτοδημιούργητων ομογενών που με την σκληρή εργασία τους έβαλαν την σφραγίδα τους στην βιομηχανία των τροφίμων και διακρίθηκαν, κάτω από αντίξοες συνθήκες, σαν πρωταγωνιστές στην αμερικανική οικονομία.
Ξεκινήσαμε με την ιδέα να περιλάβουμε σ' αυτόν τον τόμο μόνο τα εστιατόρια με ελληνική κουζίνα σ' όλες τις αμερικανικές πόλεις καθώς και τις επιχειρήσεις που σχετίζονται άμεσα με αυτές. Στη συνέχεια, και καθώς είχαμε αρχίσει να εργαζόμαστε πάνω σ' αυτόν τον στόχο, σκεφθήκαμε ότι θα ήταν καλύτερα αν στον οδηγό του Estiator θα μπορούσε να βρει κανείς όχι μόνο τα ελληνικής μαγειρικής μαγαζιά, αλλά και όλα τα παντός είδους ελληνικής ιδιοκτησίας εστιατόρια. Τα diners, τα luncheonettes, τα coffee shops και τις αλυσίδες fast food ελληνικής ιδιοκτησίας.
THE NEW YEAR'S message by Mr. Pete Tsagarakis, which we are running on another page, reflects his faith in the Pan Gregorian companies—a Greek-American institution, his appreciation of their work, and his belief in their potential for further development. It is the first such message of holiday greetings and wishes for the New Year appearing in our magazine.
We know that Mr. Tsagarakis is not alone in terms of his love for Pan Gregorian. There are a lot of others who appreciate everything that these companies have done for them and how much they have benefited the Greek-American restaurant industry over the past 20 years. At the same time, however, they believe that these companies have the potential to secure even greater benefits for their shareholders.
